With the release of the lastest Super Smash Bros installment just a month away (and even less for Japan), I thought I'd start sharing what info I've come across for all those excited about its release.
Probably the best place to start here would be the most anticipated aspect of the game, the cast. Smash Bros plays host to a large variety of characters from all walks of Nintendo history, including internationally famous faces such as Mario and Pikachu. SSBB also, for the first time, will include a small number (two or three maximum) of non-Nintendo characters as well, opening doors for an even wider variety of fighters.
Of course, not everyone can get in. There are three requirements a character must pass in order to make it into Smash Bros.
Requirement # 1: The character must have appeared in at least one game on a Nintendo consol. In other words, a character has to have appeared in a game on either the NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, DS, Game & Watch, or Virtual Boy to get in. This means Sony and Microsoft exclusive characters, such as Rachet or Master Chief cannot make it in.
Requirement # 2: The character must have originated from a video game series. This means characters such as Darth Vader, who was created for a movie, Naruto, created for a manga, Mickey Mouse, created for cartoons, or Michael Jackson, a real person, cannot appear in the game, despite having appeared in a video game.
Requirement #3: The character cannot be property of a rival company. This one's pretty straightforward, giving their property to be used by a rival company would attract their own fan-base to the rival, and possibly away from their own products. They would simply be putting money in their opponent's hands, which really isn't a smart move. So this means that Sony and Microsoft-owned characters, including those that belong to Rare, cannot be included into Brawl (not because Nintendo isn't willing, but because their owners aren't).
If a character passes both of those requirements, then they are elligable to be included in Smash Bros.

(My appologies for the multiposting, but this helps me organize my topics a bit better) Now let's take a look at those who have already made it in. Obviously, 90% of the cast will be Nintendo's own characters, with many of them returning from Melee. However, not all characters from Melee will return, so until they have been confirmed by the official website ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/index.html) or an official trailer or gameplay video, it's anyone's guess who's gonna be in. 24 characters (26 if you count Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard as seperate characters instead of the bundle known as Pokemon Trainer, or 23 if you don't count Zero Suit Samus as a seperate character) have been confirmed on the site. They're listed as the following. 1. Mario ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/mario.html) Series: Super Mario Bros Debut Game: Donkey Kong (Arcade) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Info: Mario is the most recognized video game character of all time, everyone should already know who he is. From battling evil turtles and saving princesses to hosting parties, racing go-karts and kicking back with various sports games, Mario has done it all. Mario once again plays his usual role of the balanced character, not having any one particular trait stand out as incredibly good or poor. 2. Link ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/link.html) Series: The Legend of Zelda Debut Game: All Links - The Legend of Zelda (NES) SSB Debute: Super Smash Bros Info: Although this variation of Link is based on Twilight Princess's Link, the Smash Bros variation is actually said to be a sum of all Links (as each Zelda game, with the exception of a few titles, features a different Link each time). Despite always being a different person, all Links are essentially the same; they don the trademark green tunic, wield the legendary Master Sword, and save the kingdom of Hyrule from the evil forces of Ganon(dorf). Link's fighting style revolves around the various weapons he picks up during his adventure, including bombs, the boomerang, a bow with arrows, a grappling Hookshot and of course his sword and shield. 3. Pit ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/pit.html) Series: Kid Icarus Debut Game: Kid Icarus (NES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: As guardien of the goddess Palutena, it is Pit's job to protect Angel Land from evil. Although he is an angel, Pit's wings normally do not allow him to fully fly, but do allow him to glide, adding a new recovery method to Smash Bros; one that had brought about physics issues to keep him from joining the fray in the last two installments. Of all the characters, Pit recieved the biggest makeover, including the new ability to split his bow into two blades, a feat he never was able to perform in his own games (in the Kid Icarus games, Pit only used the bow to shoot arrows while using a hammer for close-range attacks). 4. Pikachu ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/pikachu.html) Series: Pokemon Debut Game: Pokemon Red Version/Pokemon Green Version (Game Boy) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Info: Despite its cute appearance, Pikachu is a tough little rodent with the ability to generate electricity from its red cheeks. In the Pokemon games, Pikachus are one of the hundreds of different creatures players can capture and send into battle, each species having an allignment to a particular element with each element having its strengths and weaknesses (for a game often mislabeled as "kiddy," the Pokemon series offers an extremely deep battle system that puts most RPGs to shame in level of complexity) that players use to strategically defeat each other. Pikachu, being an electric type, brings its power over lightning to fry its opponents. 5. Kirby ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/kirby.html) Series: Kirby's Dreamland Game Debut: Kirby's Dreamland (Game Boy) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Info: Kirby is the adorable protector of the world known as Dreamland, and is the creation of Masahiro Sakurai, the man also behind Smash Bros. Kirby boasts a unique ability to copy the abilities of his opponents by sucking them up and swallowing them. By doing so, he also takes upon the form of the character he copies, donning Mario's red cap, Fox's ears or Snake's beard along with their Standard Special Move (Mario's fireballs, Fox's blaster and Snake's grenades respectively). Kirby's small size and light weight makes it easier to send him flying than most characters, but his ability to puff up and float back ensure that he'll keep coming back for more.

6. Fox McCloud ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/fox.html) Series: Star Fox Debut Game: Star Fox (SNES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Info: Fox is the leader of the mercinary team known as Star Fox. When the Lylat System is in trouble, be it from wrath of a spiteful scientist, a tribe of agressive dinosaurs or infestation of insect-like Aparoids, Fox is always ready to jump into his trusty Arwing spacecraft and save the day. Of course, flying a spacecraft would give him an unfair advantage in Smash Bros, so instead, Fox brings along his blaster as he takes the fight on foot. Fox's best strength is in his speed and quick combos. 7. Samus Aran ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/samus.html) Series: Metroid Debut Game: Metroid (NES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Info: Samus is an intergalactic bounty hunter famous for tracking down the galaxy's worst, be it alien space pirates or life-sucking Metroids. Her trademark powersuit grants her many abilities such as being able to morph into a small ball, fire a variety of projectiles from her arm cannon and generate a barrier of electricity around her when she jumps. As a fighter, Samus is the master of long-range combat, putting her chargable laser and homing missiles to great use. Also, her bombs not only serve as an offense, but can be used to recover great horizontal distances if timed properly. 8. Wario ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/wario.html) Series: Wario Ware Game Debut: Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins (Game Boy) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: Neither heroic nor evil, Wario is driven to make it richat any cost, and often plays the role of hero or villian depending on the situation. For the most part, he is a comical character who finds himself in silly situations in his quest for wealth, appropriately paired with his wide assortment of bizzar abilities such as super human strength and the ability to break wind in an offensive manner. Both incarnations of Wario are available in Brawl, with the default being his Wario Ware outfit and his traditional plumber's costume being an alternate, and the only alternate costume in the game for any character. 9. Princess Zelda ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/zelda.html) Series: The Legend of Zelda Debut Game: The Legend of Zelda (NES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Melee Info: Zelda is the daughter of Hyrule's ruler and often target for the evil wizard, Ganon. Although she is mostly seen playing the role of damsel in distress, Zelda does have some tricks up her sleave including the ability to transform into her alter-ego, Shiek. Her other attacks, various spells learned from the Hylian godesses, are also return from Melee. 10. Bowser ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/bowser.html) Series: Super Mario Bros Debut Game: Super Mario Bros (NES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Melee Info: The antagonist of the Mario series, Bowser makes it his job to cause trouble. Most of the time, that trouble is kidnapping the princess only to be defeated time and time again by the Mario brothers and their friends. As king of the Koopa, Bowser has a massive reptilian army at his beck and call, though most of it is as bumbling as he is. Bowser's tradmark ability is to spit fire much like a dragon, however, he is a turtle and can hide in his shell if needed to do so. Also, because he is a turtle, he is known to be quite slow, but does pack a big punch and doesn't sail as far as other characters when hit.

11. Donkey Kong ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/donkeykong.html) Series: Donkey Kong Country Debut Game: Donkey Kong (Arcade) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Info: DK is a laid-back gorilla who lives deep in the jungle. He mostly spends his time gulping down bananas, but when crocodile-like Kremlings threaten his stash, DK quickly springs into action. Because he is a large ape, DK boasts temendous strength, which he puts into hurling barrels at his enemies. He also has the ability to lift his opponents and carry them about without any hinderance to his movement, allowing him to choose the best opportunity to throw them to their doom. 12. Zero Suit Samus ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/zerosuit_samus.html) Series: Metroid Debut Game: Metroid: Zero Mission (Game Boy Advance) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: If anyone ever wondered what Samus looked like outside her armor, this would be it. In the first Metroid game, the big surprise at the end of the game would be that Samus revealed herself to be a woman (women protagonists in games were relatively uncommon in games back then). In Zero Mission, the player was given the ability to play as Samus without her armor for the first time, resulting in a quicker but weaker Samus who used a different weapon than her usual arm cannon. This is incorperated into Brawl by allowing Samus, through her Final Smash attack, to shed her armor to become the fast and agile Zero Suit Samus. 13. Yoshi ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/yoshi.html) Series: Yoshi's Island Debut Game: Super Mario World (SNES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Info: In the Mario universe are lovable dinosaurs known as Yoshis (sometimes spelled as Yoshies depending on the game). Yoshi, obviously, is a member of that species. Yoshi's are known for their ability to grab enemies with their long tongues and gobble them down in a single bit, and then poop them out as eggs (even the males are able to lay eggs). These eggs are then used as projectiles to be thrown at other enemies. Yoshi also boasts a special Flutter Jump that makes him invincible while performing at the expense of a third jump, until Brawl in which his Egg Throw allows him to cover a small ammount of distance while in the air. 14: Ike ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/ike.html) Series: Fire Emblem Debut Game: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (Gamecube) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: Ike is one of many "lords," or protagonist characters, found in the Fire Emblem series. Unlike other lords, he is not born of nobel or royal blood, but the son of a mercinary. After witnessing his father's death at the hands of the evil Black Knight, Ike has made it his quest to advenge his father. His weapon of choice is his sword, Ragnell; a two handed sword he can use with only one hand. In fights, Ike is relatively slow but packs a massive punch, and several of his attacks make in invulnerable to flinching. 15. Pokemon Trainer ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/pokemon_trainer.html) Series: Pokemon Debut Game: Pokemon Red Version/Pokemon Green Version (Game Boy) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: Three characters rolled into one, Pokemon Trainer (sometimes dubbed Red, or confused with Ash from the anime) lets his Pokemon do the fighting while he gives commands from a safe distance. Because of this, players get to take control of three different Pokemon; water-type Squirtle, grass-type Ivysaur and fire-type Charizard. Unlike Zelda/Shiek in Melee, players are not recommended to switch their Pokemon at any given time, as switching too frequently or infrequently results in hinderances upon your Pokemon team.

16. Princess Peach ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/peach.html) Series: Super Mario Bros Debut Game: Super Mario Bros (NES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Melee Info: If Peach knows how to do one thing, it's get kidnapped, always finding herself Bowser's captive in one way or another. Of course, she isn't entirely defenseless and has done her own share of heroing (even saving Mario from Bower's clutches). Her ruffled dress allows her to defy gravity by hovering in place, or move in a horizontal direction while hovering, for a brief period of time. Couple that with her parasol and she's the master of recovery. 17. Diddy Kong ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/diddykong.html) Series: Donkey Kong Country Debut Game: Donkey Kong Country (SNES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: DK's little buddy and sidekick, Diddy is for speed what Donkey is for strength. Being a monkey, agility is Diddy's specialy, allowing him to skip about without recieving a scratch. Along with speed, Diddy also bring an assortment of jungle-inspired items including his Peanut Poppers and Rocketbarrel Pack, giving him the ability to fly and blast his opponents from afar. 18. Meta Knight ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/metaknight.html) Series: Kirby's Dreamland Debut Game: Kirby's Adventure (NES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: Meta Knight is as mysterious as they come. While he serves under King Dedede and is a sort of "rival" to Kirby, his intentions are anyone's guess. He's been known to both help and hinder Kirby's progress. One thing for certain is he is one heck of of a swordsman. His lightning fast and rather strong swings allows him to drill into and slash apart his foes, and his ability to glide back to the stage safely makes him the ideal character for beginners. 19. Ice Climbers ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/iceclimbers.html) Series: Ice Climber Debut Game: Ice Climber (NES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Melee Info: Together, Popo and Nana make up the duo known as the Ice Climbers. Being used fridged environments, slippery floors have no affect on the traction of the Climbers, giving them the upper hand on icy surfaces while their opponents slip about helplessly. Their real strength is in their number, two fighters for the price of one, which give them the ability to perform two different attacks at the same time, if the player is fast enough to break their syncronization. 20. Solid Snake ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/snake.html) Series: Metal Gear Company: Konami Debut Game: Metal Gear (Microsoft MSX2) Nintendo Debut: Metal Gear (NES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: Solid Snake is a special operative of the FOXHOUND espionage unit. His objective is most often to find and destroy massive machines of destruction known as Metal Gears. Stealth is Snake's strongest ally, as he spends most of his missions lurking through enemy bases, often aided by his beloved cardboard box. Because of his close friendship with Masahiro Sakurai, Snake's creator, Hideo Kojima begged for Snake to be included in Brawl, making him the first non-Nintendo character to make an appearance in Smash Bros.

21. Lucas ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/lucas.html) Series: Mother/EarthBound Debut Game: Mother 3 (Gameboy Advance) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: Set long after the last Mother game (EarthBound), Lucas is the current protagonist of the series. He is a timid boy who learns various telekinetic powers which aids him in his quest to find his missing brother, Claus; who had vanished after attempting to slay the creature that killed their mother. In both his own game and Smash Bros, Lucas mirrors Ness in many ways, to the extent that he adopts three of Ness's special moves (Pk Fire, Pk Thunder and Pk Magnet). Because of this, it seems that Lucas will be the replacement of Ness (as was originally planned for Melee had Mother 3 been released back then). 22. Sonic the Hedgehog ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/sonic.html) Series: Sonic the Hedgehog Company: Sega Debut Game: Sonic the Hedgehog (Sega Genesis) Nintendo Debut: Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (Gamecube) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: When it comes to speed, nobody can outrun the "Blue Blur." Sonic's feet allow him to race about at the speed of sound, giving him the upperhand in defeating Dr. Eggman's (aka Dr. Robotnik) countless attempts at global domination. His body is covered in blue quills that allow him to shred apart his foes when curled into a ball, and by revving up his curled form, Sonic is able to blast about with his trademark Spin Dash. Sonic is currently the second, and most wanted, non-Nintendo character to make it into Smash Bros, and his enevitable showdown with his unofficial rival, Mario himself, is greatly anticipated. 23. King Dedede ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/kingdedede.html) Series: Kirby's Dreamland Debut Game: Kirby's Dreamland (Game Boy) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: Dedede is the self-proclaimed ruler of Dreamland, but he really is a royal pain in the rear than a true monarch. Antagonizing Kirby from the beginning, Dedede loves nothing more than to cause trouble to his pink rival, though his plans always backfire in some way. Many of Dedede's abilities mirror Kirby, being able to suck up and spit out his foes (but cannot copy their abilities) and puff himself up to float about. Dedede's weapon of choice is his wooden mallet, able to cause a great deal of pain to those unfortunate to be on the recieving end of it. 24. Captain Olimar (and Pikmin) ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/pikmin.html) Series: Pikmin Debut Game: Pikmin (Gamecube) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: Stranded on an alien world with only thirty days to survive, all seemed lost for Olimar until he discovered and befriended native creatures known as Pikmin. Pikmin are small plant-like creatures that come in a variety of colors, each color signifying a different ability. Through teamwork with the Pikmin, Olimar was able to repair his damage ship and leave safely to his home world while the Pikmin learn to organize themselves and defend off the various predators of their world. True to his game, Olimar's strength comes from the Pikmin he plucks, allowing them to take down any foe he encounters. 25. Sheik ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/sheik.html) Series: The Legend of Zelda Debut Game: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Melee Info: In order to evade Ganondorf's clutches as he conquered Hyrule, Zelda donned the disguise and alter-ego Sheik. As Sheik, Zelda was able to guide Link to the various temples to obtain the power to defeat Ganon. In Smash Bros, Zelda has the ability to transform into Sheik and back through her down special, allowing her to use each form at the most opportune moment. Sheik boasts great speed and ninja-like agility, as well as an arsonal of needles and chains for her attacks. An interesting discovery has been recently made while watching a trailer for Super Smash Bros Brawl on the Japanese Wii site ( wii.com/jp/movies/smashbros-movie1/). In this video, many of Brawl's features are displayed, including the page of stickers. During the sequence, two stickers of interest are highlighted, one of Groudon and one Claus (the brother of Lucas). What makes these two stickers interesting is that they display faces of confirmed and not yet confirmed characters (namely Jigglypuff, Ness and Lucario) in their sticker info (pausing of the video at exactly 4:20 and 4:21 needs to be done in order to see these). According to the Sticker Power-Up update ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/modea/modea12.html) certain stickers are compatible with certain characters. The example of this is the Cell Phone from Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, which shows it's compatible with Kirby, Meta Knight and King Dedede. Using that layout as a reference point, the images of these characters would mean that those stickers are compatible with said characters, hinting that said characters will be playable. Many people are using this as proof of confirmation for Ness, Jigglypuff and Lucario, however, there is room for error and the images could be misunderstood. Further to support the resturn of Ness is the opening video for Super Smash Bros Brawl ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIhz51Fstbw&feature=related), recently released. In it, it shows various cutscenes from the SSE including a shot of Ness with Lucas. 26? Ness Series: Mother/EarthBound Debut Game: EarthBound (SNES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Info: Ness's quest began with the crashing of a meteor on top of the hills of his hometown, Onett. In that meteor was a bee from the future, warning Ness of an alien threat known as Giygas. From then on, Ness set out to save the world from the alien threat. If Ness is indeed returning, it's going to be an interesting developement as Lucas has already inherited the majority of his moves from previous Smash Bros games. Ness may end up with a completely new moveset or share a similar relationship that Mario and Luigi share where they both have similar moves. 27? Jigglypuff Series: Pokemon Debut Game: Pokemon Red Version/Pokemon Green Version (Game Boy) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Info: Beneath Jigglypuff's cute exterior lies a true beast when it comes to fighting. It's balloon-like body allows it to float about dealing a handful of tough arial attacks while also able to recover from long horizontal distances. It's trademark attack is its ability to lul its opponents to sleep by singing, leaving them defenseless for Jiggly to rip apart. 28? Lucario Series: Pokemon Debut Game: Pokemon Diamond Version/Pokemon Pearl Version (DS) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Brawl Info: Lucario is the posterchild for the most recent generation of Pokemon. Its Fighting Type attributes make it the perfect candidate for a fighter. Currently, it appears that Lucario will be the new playable Pokemon, possible replacing Mewtwo and/or Pichu, as neither of them appear on the sticker page during the video that "leaks" Jigglypuff and Lucario (and also shows known Pokemon fighters, Pikachu and Pokemontrainer). 29. Marth (Currently no update has been made of him yet, but here's a video of him in the SSE. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZdr5rHLUl4) Series: Fire Emblem Debut Game: Fire Emblem (NES) SSB Debut: Super Smash Bros Melee Info: Marth is the very first protagonist of the Fire Emblem series and is considered the face of Fire Emblem. With his trusty Falchion in hand, Marth set out to protect the kingdom of Altea and countinent of Akanea from the evil wizard Medeus and his minion Garnef.

While the entire cast is still yet to be known, some characters have already been proven not to make the list. Just as character updates on the site reveal to us who will be playable, other aspects of the game such as items and Subspace Emissary enemies show us which characters have roles other than playable fighter. With the inclusion of a new item known as the Assist Trophy, which works identical to the Pokeball as it summons a character to aid you when thrown, many potential fighters have been scratched off the list. The item, however, does allow for a larger appearance of characters, even if they aren't playable. Like the Assist Trophy, the Pokeball summons a Pokemon to assist players, as it did in the past Smash Bros games, and like in earlier games, those Pokemon summoned were not those playable in the game, again taking potentail fighters from the list. As with the characters, many of these "deconfirmed" characters are currently listed on the Dojo. 1. Groudon ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/mball/mball02.html) Series: Pokemon Debut Game: Pokemon Ruby Version/Pokemon Sapphire Version (Game Boy Advance) Non-Playable Role: Pokeball Pokemon Effect: Groudon is very large and takes up the majority of the stage. Any opponent who happens to touch Groudon will be burnt by its firey aura. Info: Groudon is the Ruby Version exclusive top Pokemon. It's known for it's power over fire, causing the Hoenn reigon to fall into a deep drought once encountered in the Ruby Version. Peace and order was returned to Hoenn once Groudon was captured or defeated, though, like all Legendary Pokemon, Groudon can only be battled once, so if you fail to capture it, you wont get another chance. 2. Chikorita ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/mball/mball01.html) Series: Pokemon Debut Game: Pokemon Gold Version/Pokemon Silver Version (Game Boy) Non-Playable Role: Pokeball Pokemon Effect: Chikorita sits in place and fires several leaf projectiles directly in front of it. Info: Chikorita is the Grass Style Pokemon players can choose from at the very beginning. It uses the sunlight to energize itself through the large leaf on its head. The leaf also surves as its primary offense as that is where it's attacks are produced from. 3. Goldeen ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/mball/mball01.html) Series: Pokemon Debut Game: Pokemon Red Version/Pokemon Green Version (Game Boy) Non-Playable Role: Pokeball Pokemon Effect: Goldeen just flops about on the stage providing literally nothing to the battle. Goldeen is known as the dud-Pokemon as summoning it is a waste of a Pokeball. Info: Goldeen is a Water Type Pokemon known for the poisonous horn atop its head. Since it is a fish, it isn't very effective outside of water, to which is role as a Pokeball summon directly reflects as it does literally nothing useful on land. 4. Samurai Goroh ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/assist02.html) Series: F-Zero Debut Game: F-Zero (SNES) Non-Playable Role: Assist Trophy Effect: Goroh dashes toward his foe, swinging his sword wildly. Info: Samurai Goroh is the leader of a group of intergalactic bandits as well as a bounty hunter. As a hunter, he often rivals Captain Falcon for his prey, both on and off the F-Zero race tracks. 5. Hammer Bro. ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/assist01.html) Series: Super Mario Bros Debut Game: Super Mario Bros (NES) Non-Playable Role: Assist Trophy, Suspace Emissary Enemy Effect: Hammer Bro throws his trademark hammers at his opponents. Info: As a member of Bowser's henchmen, Hammer Bros make it their goal to stop Mario and his friends at all cost. As their name suggests, Hammer Bros make use of hammer projectiles to keep their enemies at bay, often working in pairs to make their attacks very difficult to avoid. 6. Nintendog Puppy ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/assist01.html) Series: Misc Nintendo (SSB Logo) Debut Game: Nintendogs Lab and Friends/Nintendogs Chihuahua and Friends/Nintendogs Dachshund and Friends (DS) Non-Playable Role: Assist Trophy Effect: The Nintendog Puppy will jump up to the screen and scratch at it for attention, blocking the view of the fight behind it. Info: The Nintendog puppy, a labrodor retriever in this case, is a virtual pet puppy that players can raise and play with on their DS. Nintendogs act like normal dogs as they love to eat, sleep, play, take walks and be petted by their owners. 7. Dr. Wright ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/assist03.html) Series: Misc Nintendo Debut Game: Sim City (SNES) Non-Playable Role: Assist Trophy Effect: Dr. Wright summons a group of skyscraper buildings underneath opponents, launching them upward. Info: Dr. Wright is a homage/parody of Maxis's own Will Wright, creator of the Sim City and The Sims games. In Sim City for the SNES, Dr. Wright played role as the host and guided players through the menus of the game. 8. Deoxys ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/mball/mball03.html) Series: Pokemon Debut Game: Pokemon Ruby Version/Pokemon Sapphire Version (Game Boy Advance) Non-Playable Role: Pokeball Pokemon Effect: Deoxys flies above the battle and fires down a massive laser blast. Info: Deoxys is a very special Pokemon as it has four different forms in the Pokemon games, each form unique to a different version of the game (its normal form is found in the Ruby and Sapphire versions, its speed form in the Emerald version, its defensive form in the Leaf Green version and its attack form in the Fire Red version). It is said to be a species of virus that arrived to Earth from space. 9. Knuckle Joe ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/assist04.html) Series: Kirby's Dreamland Debut Game: Kirby Superstar (SNES) Non-Playable Role: Assist Trophy Effect: Knuckle Joe wails upon his opponents with numerous punches an then finishesh them with one of two different powerful finishing blows. The finishing attack is either a horizontal punch complete with a flaming projectile or an electorfied uppercut. Info: Knuckle Joe is a minor enemy in Kirby Superstar that, when eaten, gave Kirby the power of martial arts as his Fighter Kirby form. 10. Devil ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/assist05.html) Series: Misc Nintendo Debut Game: Devil World (NES) Non-Playable Role: Assist Trophy Effect: Devil hovers above the fight point in various directions. Depending on the direction he points, the screen's boundaries will shift in the opposite direction, forcing the battle to various places on the stage. Info: Devil is the villian of the game Devil World, never released in the US due to its religious elements. In Devil World, a small dragon armed with the Bible named Tamagon, journeyed into the Devil's domain to defeat him. In attempt to defeat Tamagon, Devil used his power over his domain to shift the world about to try and crush Tamagon between walls and the screen boundary.

11. Andross - SNES Version ( www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/assist06.html) Series: Star Fox Debut Game: Star Fox (SNES) Non-Playable Role: Assist Trophy Effect: Andross flies into the background and beings spewing rectangular panels into the fight in front of him.
