I sort of started this on the old forum talking about the PS3's SKUs, but I thought I'd do this for all the consoles here just to give an inside to those that have yet to purchase one of these.
Okay, first off, let's start with the PS3. For those that haven't been to a retail store in a while, here's what's going on. The 80GB bundle that has Metal Gear Solid 4 has been selling pretty darn well (I know, I bought one of them), but you might want to try and find one before it's too late. If you don't, this is what you'll run in to. Starting now, Sony put out another 80GB system to replace the 40GB system (which sells at the same price as the now discontinued 40GB system: $399), and as you would imagine, this 80GB system is exactly like the 40GB system...limited PS1 BC and absolutely zero PS2 BC! So what will happen to the Limited Edition bundles? Well, Sony's coming out with another one later this year that will feature a 160GB hard drive and the game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (a surprisingly good game that Sony did) to replace the 80GB MGS4 bundle currently out. I wouldn't celebrate on that note, though. Like the new 80GB system, this system will not have full BC, either! So, either way, if you're looking to own a PS3 at this point, and you want the now partial BC, look for the 80GB MGS4 bundle. Other than that, hang on to your PS2s because you're definitely going to need them!
Now on the Xbox 360. Earlier this summer, Microsoft slashed the prices on all the Xbox 360 Pro systems by $50. Now, they did this in order to ax all the ones that come with the 20GB hard drive so that they can make room for systems that now come with a 60GB hard drive. The new 60GB systems, which as I've looked are available now, sell for the price of the older 20GB systems at $349. Now each system comes with the exact same equipment and features, so you won't be getting new out of the box with the exception of the 60GB hard drive. As far as the Elite and Arcade SKUs go, they're still on the market retailing for normal price. And if you're looking for a used Xbox 360, GameStop sells them for under $200, literally! An Xbox 360 system that comes with a wired controller sells at GameStop for $189, and one that comes with a wired controller sells for $199. Now each of these systems don't come with a hard drive, so you'll have to buy one of those yourself (and I would wait until Microsoft decides to sell the 60GB drives separately). So those looking for an Xbox 360 have a some good deals to work with.
That's all I have for now, but I'll get some more hardware updates when I get them. Hope some of you will find this useful.
