It's been years since we've seen anything new within the BloodRayne franchise. After BloodRayne 2 came out, in 2005 Majesco did have plans to release a new game to the series in the form of a PSP game. This game was supposed to explain the unknown history of Rayne and feature new elements to the gameplay including a two-player co-op mode, but it unfortunately got canceled due to financial troubles at Majesco. To quickly recap those troubles, the company released a few other games that didn't really sell well or were completely bad. Double Fine Productions' (the same dev studio behind the recent Brutal Legend) Psychonauts sold poorly despite critical acclaim and several awards it won (believe me, that game is really good...go check it out if you haven't), but the nail in the coffin was the release of Advent Rising which was severely hyped my Majesco, but was panned by critics for its poor gameplay and abundance of glitches, and even garnered controversy over the canceled $1 million contest Majesco had going. After all of that, Majesco then decided to focus its attention on value games as well as handheld games, which explains why there hasn't been any new releases of BloodRayne in recent years (in fact, the big thing they're noted for, nowadays, is the Cooking Mama series). That, though, is about to change.
I just found out about this today, but apparently Majesco has decided to bring back BloodRayne in the form of a new game to be released on the 3DS called BloodRayne: The Shroud. Currently, there are no details on the game whatsoever, so it probably means that Majesco is being tight lipped about it, so your guess as to what this game's about is as good as mine. But if I had to guess, I'd say it probably has something to do with the Shroud that was introduced in BloodRayne 2, and that you might have to be fighting vampires in the daytime with the Shroud over the sky. I'll be sure to keep my eye on more details as they come about, but at least after five to six years, we finally have something new in the BloodRayne universe.
