Everyone has their set of games that they hate but the world around them seem to love. What are yours?
I'm going to list mine and why I list them. This is in no particular order. These are games I absolutely hate but everyone else seems to love.
Left 4 Dead games
I watched some friends play this game when it first came out and even then it just looked really unappealing to me. First off, I'm not at all keen on newer first person shooters because lately, they're practically all the same. If you've played one, you've played another. One other thing that turned me away from this was it was a zombie game as well. I've just become sick of the whole "zombie apocalypse" fad that's been going on as of late, which goes for both games and movies. The Resident Evil games were good in the sense that they had decent gameplay and a decent story to tell. But I have to give some disdain to the series for even making zombie games a household name, because just about everyone these days is doing it. I just get very sick and tired of seeing it. Me personally, I would take the Half-Life and Portal games over the Left 4 Dead ones anyday of the week. Those games are more interesting to me.
Any game by BioWare
Don't even get me started on this developer. They just make some of the most boring games I've ever seen and attempted to play. When Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic first came out, I bought it. I wanted to like this game. I wanted to love this game. But...fifteen minutes into the game (after I got off the ship), I fell asleep. I tried playing Jade Empire, and fell asleep to it. After Jade Empire I just said "no more" to BioWare. I won't go anywhere near Mass Effect at all (watched a friend play that and I had to distract myself from it by playing Mahjong on my computer of all things), and I'm trying my best to stay away from Dragon Age: Origins, even though my friends say it's not like many BioWare games (though they say the second one sucked anyway). I probably won't touch it anytime soon, but since my PlayStation Plus subscriptions gives me Full Game Trials, and Dragon Age: Origins is on that list, if he convinces me enough, maybe I'll look at it...but I won't expect anything of it because it is BioWare after all.
Bayonetta
I will never in my lifetime figure out how this game has garnered such popularity. I never will. I actually consider this game the absolute worst game that Platinum Games ever developed in their short history. The story is forgettable, the characters are completely annoying (especially the title character herself and that stupid Joe Pesci knockoff they tried to pass off), I wanted to gag at the god awful music, and the gameplay I absolutely detest in the same way I detest the gameplay of Devil May Cry (granted some of the people who worked on Devil May Cry also worked on this game and it shows, too). Still, a strong majority of people fell in love with this game and I never understood why. I for one favor the Wii classic MadWorld (which is vastly underrated and overlooked by so many people who are so pigheaded to pick up a Wii and give it a try) to this piece of trash. Don't ever bring up Bayonetta in a conversation with me because I can't guarantee that I'll be civil.
Gears of War games
If there's one way I can think of to describe Gears of War is this...GENERIC!!! Just a typical generic shooting game with nothing innovative about it. Generic characters (seriously, where don't you see these type of characters nowadays), generic story, generic gameplay...nothing about this game interested me. I tried to play this game, but within ten minutes of going through it, I fell asleep. It was THAT boring to me. I honestly have no idea how it spawned three games, but to me it shows that if a game has guns, blood and guts, and big beefy men running around, people will buy and play anything.
These are all I can think of thus far, and I'm sure more will pop up when they come about. Now I'd make a reverse list of this (stuff I like but everyone else hates), but honestly that would have me going through older games and not including much of any newer games because...honestly, I hate most of today's video games (just like I hate most of today's gamers). If I do make the reverse list, I'll see what I can come up with.
