For those that are unaware, Forza Motorsport 4 will hit stores next month. Anyone going to be picking it up first day?

I'd like to, but I have to buy a Kinect first, and I don't know when I'll be able to buy that.

It's not mandatory to play with the Kinect, but I guess it could be fun.

Ah, okay. I thought you had to get it to play. Well, in that case, I'll probably get it in a few months.

Not every game that's compatible with the Kinect actually requires it. In most cases, having the Kinect is just an enhancement.

If you don't know already, you can download the demo for Forza 4 now. I downloaded it this morning, but I haven't played it yet. I hope it doesn't have the retarded, "Do 15 Laps on a 3-8 mile track!".
I know I whined about this, but it seriously isn't a challenge - just annoying. It's the only real complaint I have about 3.

I don't think for a demo they would do that.

I'm meaning I hope the full version doesn't have that. Sorry for not making myself clear. Today has been crazy, so my mind has decided to take the rest of the day off.

I'm pretty sure they're going to have some race challenges like that. It is a racing sim after all. It feels arcade like, but it's more or less a sim.
Also that demo is a Gold exclusive as of now, and me having a free XBL account with absolutely zero intentions on going Gold, I can't access it until they make it available for all.

Again, I don't see the long races as a challenge, but that's probably the ADD in me. Plus the environment of tracks gotten to the point where they all look the same (never really though much of the tracks to begin with). What helps with these long tracks is playing music you like while racing.
Anyhoo, in Forza 4, which I just got through playing the demo. The graphics are nicer and the environment to the track I played was very nice. I was racing around snow covered mountains and there was a lake/river in the center of the level. The controls are still the same. Basically for what I saw, everything was still the same except for the tracks and the graphics are sharper (obviously).

Simulation racing games are always going to have those long lap races. The point behind it is just like the sub-genre says...simulation. The idea is to simulate real life endurance races that real life racers go through because if you look at any racing event on TV (like something on Speed Channel or even a NASCAR race for example), it tells you how many laps they have to complete in order to complete the race. Sometimes it can be as little as 28 laps. Other times it's brutal. In NASCAR, for example, some races there comprise of 600-lap races. And let's not forget the famous Le Mans 24-hour race, a race that is literally lapless and does, in fact, last a full 24 hours.
And to be honest, this isn't the first time this has been done. The first two Forza games before FM3 had these races as well, and Sony's Gran Turismo series has always had them (I remember going through those on Gran Turismo 2). If you're not a fan of or completely into real life motorsport racing, you're not going to like these races, but then again, these races were built with those that are into motorsports in mind.

Like I mentioned, before, I did some of the long tracks (and still very slowly working on finishing the events), but I do find it boring. I guess I should put more challenges to it where it's not as boring. As for what the racers in life go through, they enjoy that otherwise they wouldn't do it. We're playing a video game...it's like saying we should experience pain from fighting games because fights cause pain in reality.
Anyhoo, I got Forza 4 as a Christmas gift. I think I'm a level 20 now. The turns in this game seem awkward and the games seems like it's a little harder. Sometimes the AI racers just smoke me and I have it on easy. I do like the newer events they added with the bowling pins.
I still find these games fun, even if the laps seem to go on forever. Music helps me a lot to race through them, so I don't mind it so much then. It'll probably take me another year or two to beat the events though, if I do decide to finish them.
